2028 Los Angeles Olympic Qualifiers: Nigeria’s opponent, Comoros pummel Sudan 17-0

The 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games African qualifiers for women’s football, which officially began today with the first-round matches, have produced a record-setting result as Nigeria’s next round opponents Comoros thrashed Sudan 17 -0 when both met on Thursday at Larbi Zaouli Stadium,  Casablanca in Morocco.

It was a match no fewer than 11 Comoros’ players scored goals with forward Hafsat Ahamada scored a quadruple in the 33′, 49′, 66′, 89′ respectively.

Also, three players scored a brace each in the one-sided match, namely Al. Saïd (17′, 42′); Boina Ali  (31′, 54′)and Saidat Houmadi (59′, 87′) just as seven players scored a goal each.

They are Saïd Madjiri (8′); Aby Dahmani  (37′);  Safia Ahamada  (39′); Wadi Housseni  (46′);  Taija Maoulida (52′) Adi Anduma (56′) and Datia Saïd (69′).

The return leg is also fixed for Larbi Zaouli Stadium, Casablanca in  Morocco, venue of the first leg because Sudan is playing away from home following the ongoing war in the country with the centre referee Seonyatseng Tshephe from Botswana appointed by CAF to officiate the encounter.

The winner over two legs between Sudan and Comoros will face the reigning African champions Nigeria in the second round of the qualifiers slated for October 5 and 13, 2026.

Also, tomorrow,  South Sudan will play hosts to Madagascar, while Djibouti senior women’s team will travel to Mauritius to confront the home team today.

No fewer than thirty-five national teams are competing in the qualifiers across five home-and-away rounds for the right to secure one of Africa’s two tickets to the tournament.
