2026 FIFA U-17WWC: Busari Takes Bold Step, drops Captain Harmony For Crucial North Korea Clash

From Harry Awurumibe, Live in Morocco
Determined to get a good result that would take Nigeria to the next round of the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals in Morocco, Flamingos head, coach Busari Hakeem Ishola has dropped hugely ineffective team captain Harmony Chidera Chidi  from the startlist of today’s crucial Group B last match against North Korea at Pitch 1 of Mohammed VI Football Complex, Rabat by 3:00 pm local Moroccan time (4:00 pm Nigerian time).
The gaffer has instead called on fleet footed Oluebube Umejiaku to replace Chidi in the attack in the match Nigeria needs to pick a point to ensure easy passage to the Round of 16 to avoid early exit from the competition.
However, Busari retained the 10 players who started the 2-0 defeat of Puerto Rico on Tuesday with reliable goalkeeper Jane Ijirigho between the sticks and will be shielded by Ohunene Sunday, Esther Stephen Rodiat Yusuf and Azeezat Oduntan who will captain the Flamingos in the absence of Chidi.
Favour Nkwocha, Tosin Rafiu and Mary Dunstan retained their places in the midfield while Umejiaku has joined very efficient Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Queen Joseph in the attack.
Nigeria is currently placed third in the group with three points, the same with second placed Poland that will tackle Puerto Rico with zero point while North Korea leads the pack with six maximum points after two matches each.
Depending on the results from five other groups, a win or draw will be enough for Nigeria to go through to the next round today just as a heavy defeat by North Korea may jeopardise the chances of the Flamingos to progress further.
