Nigeria’s Flying Eagles’ quest for the elusive FIFA U-20 trophy was once again dashed today after a 2-1 defeat by the Junior Terenga Lions of Senegal in their Round of 16 match in Lodz at the on-going FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Two first half goals by Senegal in the 36th and 45th minutes by Amadou Sagna and Pape Niane, ensured that the Senegalese finished the first stanza 2-0 but Nigeria was to reduce the score line when Success Makanjuola ‘s rocket shot was deflected into Senegal’s net Effiom Okon early in the second half.

The defeat meant that Nigeria has been eliminated from further participation in the competition while Senegal deservedly progress to the quarter final stage just as the   Coach Paul Aigbogun –led team was like an accident waiting to happen by their poor display in the four matches Nigeria played in Poland.

Apart from the 4-0 hammering of the hapless Qatar in the opening Group match, Aigbogun’s team fell 0-2 to USA and managed to hold Ukraine to 1-1 draw to qualify as one of the Best Losers for the quarter final stage and has been beaten by Senegal.
