2026 FIFA U-17WWC Round of 16 Clash: How Flamingos ‘ll Play Mexico, By Nigeria’s Head Coach

From Harry Awurumibe, Live in Morocco
Barely one day to the crucial Round of 16 clash between Nigeria and Mexico in the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup match on Thursday, October 29 at Pitch 2 of Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, Morocco by 3pm, head coach of Nigeria’s Flamingo Busari Hakeem Ishola has revealed that he would stick to his game plans which have worked in favour of the team in the last two matches.
This is even as he has promised to make adjustments in the course of the winner-takes-all match against Mexico in order to grind out a win   and qualify for the quarter-finals stage.
Speaking exclusively to Prompt News in Rabat ahead of tomorrow’s must-win match, Busari hinted to keep faith with the team that outclassed the defending champions North Korea in the 3-1 comfortable victory over the invincible Koreans in the group stage.
According to him, the task ahead is tough and he is not oblivious of the danger the Mexicans will pose when they tackle Nigeria as both countries fight to remain in the competition which is only possible if one team wins tomorrow.
In fact, the Flamingos will be aiming to deliver a composed and efficient performance against Mexico, knowing that a victory will secure their place in the quarter-finals and keep their hopes of lifting the trophy alive.
For this reason, Busari has urged his players to be more clinical in front of goal in the Round of 16 match against Mexico, pointing out that his
side must make the most of their scoring opportunities to stand a chance of progressing to the quarter-finals stage.

However, the soft-spoken Busari has  acknowledged that Mexico’s quality can’t be ignored, noting that both nations deserve respect at this stage of the competition.

Said he: “We know there is no second chance, and we let the players know why it is important to take their opportunities once and for all,” Busari told the team’s media.
“Mexico are a very good side. I believe they respect us, and we equally have respect for them because every team at this particular stage is a contender for the trophy.
“We have just talked to the players about high mentality, a sense of readiness and a good approach to the game.”
