Nigeria’s senior women’s football team Super Falcons have arrived in Casablanca, Morocco, in the first leg of the trip to Lisbon for a training camp in Portugal in preparation for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Prompt News reports.
The Nigerian delegation made up of 10 players, coaches, and backroom staff who departed from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja aboard Air Maroc in the wee hours of Sunday have already arrived the Mohammed V International Airport, Casablanca.
As at the time of this report, the delegation was heading to Lisbon International Airport (LIS), which is 383.2 miles (616.6 kilometers), and on arrival, they will be joined by 14 other players who already have their visas to enter Portugal.
The Super Falcons will quickly settle down in the team’s camp ahead of their first international friendly match tomorrow against the Portuguese senior women’s team at Estádio José Gomes in Amadora near Lisbon.
The Justin Madugu-tutored side will later on Wednesday, June 25, play a closed-door match with the same Portugal team before jetting out to Morocco for a 10-day final preparatory camp even as the the Super Falcons will conclude their pre-WAFCON training camp with a blockbuster tie against arch-rivals Black Queens of Ghana on June 29, 2025 at Lanouria Complex in a must-win showdown of the West African sub-region’s best two teams of the past three decades and counting.
The Nigerians will be based in Casablanca for their group stage matches, which will be played at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium, where they will face Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria.
The 2024 WAFCON tournament will be played from July 5 to 26 in the North African country of Morocco.
