JUST IN: 10 Falcons, Coaches fly out to Lisbon

No fewer than 10 invited Super Falcons players, the coaching crew, and  backroom staff will depart the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Sunday for Portugal for  the week-long pre-tournament camp ahead of the CAF Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) holding in Morocco from July 5 to 26, 2025, Prompt News reports.

This is even as the 10 invited players comprising of a few domestic league players and some overseas-based professionals holidaying in Nigeria have been training in Abuja since arriving camp on Monday to complete their travelling documentations at the Embassy of Portugal.

This group will join other invited foreign-based Falcons in  Portugal ahead of the team’s first of the two friendly matches with the first on Monday at the 9, 288 capacity Estádio José Gomes in Amadora, Portugal, listed as an official match. The second will be a testimonial match for both teams.

Super Falcons will leave for Morocco for another full week close camping and acclimatization; this time with only the players who made coach Justin Madugu’s final players’ list for WAFCON 2024 assignment.

The nine-time African champions will prosecute their group phase matches in the commercial city of

Casablanca just as the Larbi Zaouli Stadium, Casablanca, will host the Nigeria matches against Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria respectively.

6 July: Nigeria Vs Tunisia (Larbi Zaouli Stadium, Casablanca – 17hrs) ‎ ‎

10 July: Botswana Vs Nigeria (Larbi Zaouli Stadium, Casablanca – 20hrs)
