Despite the sad news of the demise of its foremost captain and head coach, Chief Christian Chukwuemeka Chukwu, in the early hours of today in Enugu, Rangers International Football Club management has said that the Oriental Derby between the Coal-city outfit and neighbours, Heartland Football Club of Owerri will go ahead tomorrow at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and General Manager of Rangers, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku has exclusively told Prompt News that the much-anticipated Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Matchday 33 will go ahead as scheduled in Enugu.
According to the grieving Rangers boss, the match against bitter rivals Heartland FC will go ahead despite the unfortunate news of the death of former Rangers icon and Nigeria superstar who bestrode the country’s football scene like a colossus for decades as a player, coach and advisor.
“Yes, it’s true that we lost our legendary Christian Chukwu, the one we affectionately called Chairman Chukwu today but I can confirm that the Oriental Derby between us (Rangers International) and our rivals, Heartland FC of Owerri will still go ahead tomorrow (Sunday) at the Cathedral (Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium), Enugu”, Ezeaku insisted.

However, the Rangers International helmsman has revealed that the club’s management is still in shock, but later today, he will issue an official statement on the death of Chukwu.
Meanwhile, Prompt News can confirm that Chukwu’s first son, Chukwuemeka Chukwu (jnr), who lives in Lagos, is already back in Chukwu’s country home at
Umuikeowo, Obe Town in Nkanu LGA of Enugu state.
But as the Igbo tradition dictates, the first son will have to meet with his siblings and later consult his Umunna before make official statement on the demise of one of the most loved footballers out of Nigeria and Africa.
