2024 U-20 WWCQ: Nigeria zooms into third round as Mauritius withdraw

The national U-20 female football team, the Falconets, have progressed to the third round of the African qualifiers for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup finals slated for Colombia following the sudden withdrawal of the second round opponents Mauritius.

Prompt News  reports that Nigeria  Football Federation (NFF) has since received official notification of the  withdrawal from the Mauritius Football Association stating the country’s withdrawal from the ongoing African qualifiers.

Recall the federation had on Wednesday named the technical crew of the Falconets with Christopher Danjuma Musa as the Head Coach and Mansur Abdullahi and ex-international Effiownan Ekpo as Assistants. The coaches were also set to open camping in Abuja this weekend with the bulk of Nigeria’s  U17 Women’s World Cup-bronze medal winning team but everything has been on hold because of Mauritius’ withdrawal.

With the withdrawal of Mauritius and the cancellation of the match by the Confederation of African Football (CAF),  Nigeria will now meet the winner of the  second round two-legged ties between Tanzania v Djibouti (6-8 October, 2023) and Djibouti v Tanzania (13–15 October, 2023).
