Nigeria wins Africa’s 1st FIFA women’s football medal, beat Germany 3-2 in India

Nigeria’s junior women’s football team, Flamingos, today beat Germany’s U-17 team 3-2 on penalties at the 3rd Place Match of the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, on Sunday, October

Nigeria had led 1-0 at the end of first half and added the second on resumption but the Germans fought back emphatically and at the end of 90 minutes, both countries tied scores at 3-3 prompting a penalty shoot-out to determine the winner of the the Bronze medal.
Nigeria triumphed once again in the shoot-out as the Flamingos scored three while Germany U-17 scored two of their kicks. Nigeria had eliminated United States of America (USA) U-17  in the quarter final but lost to Colombia in the semi final last week in Goa.
Meanwhile, Spain and Colombia are slugging it out in the final match at the same venue to determine the Champion of 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final in India.
