India 2022: Flamingoes Wallop Congo 5-0, Through to 3rd Round

Nigeria’s hope to return to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after missing the last edition in Uruguay brighten this weekend after the Flamingoes thrashed the hapless Democratic Republic of Congo 5-0 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Edo state in the return leg of  2nd round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup African qualifier match.

The Flamingoes scaled through 8-0 on aggregate after also beating DR Congo U-17 women’s  3-0 away in Kinshasa in the first leg tie.
A brace by fleetfooted Opeyemi Ajakaye and one goal each by Oluwatunmininu Adeshina, Doosur Atume and Taiwo Afolabi ensured that the Coach Oloowokere Bankole tutored Flamingos keep their dream of flying all the way to India later in the year alive, although there two more hurdles to Cross.

Nigeria took the lead on five minutes at dot through Ajakaye who doubled the advantage in the 14th minute just as Adeshina put the game further beyond the visitors by netting the third in the 23rd minute.
Not to be further embarrassed, the technical crew of DR Congo team instructed their girls to hold their lines and this paid off as the Nigerians failed to score more goals until the end of the first half.
But the Flamingoes continued the pressure in the second half and were rewarded with two more goals to end the match 5-0 on the day and 8-0 goals aggregate to qualify for the 3rd round of the qualifiers where they will clash with the young Pharaohs of Egypt who walked over Guinea Bissau.
The first leg tie is billed to tske place in Egypt while the return leg match will hold in Abuja with the winner over two legs going through to the 4th and final round that will produce African representatives in India later in the year.
