Winning Manager…Matilda Otuene-Oyiloha, Rivers Angels FC, General Manager has won several domestic trophies with the club and now wants WAFU-B Cup badly
Veteran women’s football administrator and Rivers Angels General Manager, Mrs. Matilda Otuene-Oyiloha, has stated that Nigeria’s women’s league reigning champions will take no prisoners in the semi final clash when they face Amis du Monde of Togo in the on-going West African Football Union (WAFU-B) tournament at Stade Champroux in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire On Monday night.
She also said the club is primed to maintain its tradition of being the first women’s football club in Nigeria to win major trophies both at local and international competitions.
Otuene-Oyiloha who spoke to PromptNews from her team hotel in Abidjan on Sunday, revealed that Rivers Angels have been well motivated by the Government of Rivers state led by Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to ensure the players and officials are in good frame of mind to excel in the tournament in Abidjan.
According to her: “I have no doubt in mind that the players and officials will reciprocate the kind gesture of our daddy, Governor Nyesom Wike who through the Hon. Commissioner of Sports (Boma Iyayi) and Permanent Secretary (Honour Sirawo) have provided us with everything we need to do well in the WAFU-B tournament.

“The only way we can reciprocate their kind gesture is to first pick a ticket for the maiden Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Women’s Champions League (WCL) by winning the semi final tie against Amis du Monde on Monday then qualify for a final and then lift the trophy”.
According to the General Manager, anything order than beating the Togolese opponents on Monday will be a failure hence the players have been told to approach the next match as the final of the competition.
Said she: “we have been holding team talks to ensure that players, coaching crew, the backroom staff and management are on the same page and the message has been to pick WCL ticket. We have to be in Egypt for the main competition hence we to win on Monday to achieve our target”.
Otuene-Oyiloha who has been at the club since 1989 when it was known as Larry Angels before Rivers state government took it over in 199, is however optimistic that Rivers Angels will restore Nigeria’s pride in international sports scene by winning their matches in the WAFU-B tourney.
