Covid-19: CAF to rule on AWCON 2020, Inter-Club competitions restart date June 30

With the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus pandemic across the world including Africa since last March, the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) expectedly suspended football activities in the continent.

Among the competitions affected by the suspension are all the inter-club football like the 2020 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup as well as the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) 2020

Other competitions put on hold courtesy of Covid-19 are the Tokyo Olympics Qualifiers for women’s football; FIFA U-17 and U-20 Women’s World Cup African qualifiers which Nigeria’s Flamingos and Falconets are still in the running to pick the African tickets.

But CAF Executive Committee which is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 via video-conference will make pronouncements on the recommendations by its respective Standing Committees which sat earlier to make recommendations to the Executive Committee on the restart of the competitions.

Sportsrevelation reports that the Organising Committee for Inter-Clubs competitions and Management of Club Licensing, and the Organising Committee for Women’s Football held meetings via video-conference last week on the future on the various competitions.

Sportsrevelation can also confirm that details of the Executive Committee meeting will be announced by CAF in due course.
