Nigeria’s U -17 women’s football team, Flamingos Head Coach, Oloowokere Bankole taking his players through their paces ahead of their last match in Lagos before Covid-19 outbreak.
Nigeria’s junior women’s football teams, Falconets and Flamingos will not attended the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) tournaments this year after all as the U-20 and U-17 Women’s World Cup have been shifted from 2020 to 2012.
The world football governing body on Tuesday announced the postponement of the two age-grade competition from this year to early next year following the Covid-19 outbreak which has disrupted sports, religious and economic activities across the world.
Both events were earlier billed to hold in Costa Rica and Panama (U-20) and India (U-17) respectively.
The new date for the U-20 competition is January 20 to February 6, 2021 while the U-17 tournament in India will hold from February 17 to March 7, 2021. Nigeria’s Falconets have a date with Burkina Faso U-20 girls in the African qualifiers away from home before the Covid-19 pandemic stopped the encounter.
The Flamingos on their own were set to play in the last qualifying match against Ghana’s Black Princesses before football was suspended worldwide.
