2020 WAFU Women’s Cup gets new date, S/Leone hold Liberia

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has announced a new date for the postponed West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Women’s Cup which was slated for the country last year. It will now hold from February 25 to March 7, 2020.
The tournament meant for all the countries in the West African sub-region was initially scheduled for December 13 to 22, 2019 was postponed by WAFU “due to logistical concerns”.
Already the host country has picked Bo and Makeni, the second and third largest cities in Sierra Leone as the two venues for the competition. Both cities boast of stadia with seating capacities of 10,000 and 25,000 spectators respectively.
Eleven other West African nations will travel to Sierra Leone to compete for the championship which has been held in Abidjan, Cote d’ Ivoire twice with Ghana winning the maiden edition while Nigeria won the second edition last year.
Meanwhile, as part of the build up to the competition visiting Liberia senior women’s team drew 2-2 with their Sierra Leone counterparts in Makeni in a tournament during the festive month of December.
