Australia names teen player, Fowler in 23 World Cup final list

Australia national senior women’s football team,  The Matlidas Head Coach,  Ante Milicic earlier today unveiled the names of the 23 players who will represent the Asian country in the next month’s FIFA Women’s World Cup final in France including a teenage sensation, Mary Fowler.

But Milicic selected only 8 Rockies as he opted for experience and current form in picking his team. In this regard the Coach listed three World Cup veterans including goalkeeper, Lydia Williams, Lisa da Vanna and Clare Polkinghorne who have been at the competition four times.

Also in the team are six players who have played for Australia at the World Cup. They are Team Captain Sam Kerr, Laura Alleway, Caitlin Foord, Elise Kellond-Knight, Emily van Egmond and Tameka Yallop nee Butt.

Other experienced players in the team are Teigan Allen, Katrina Gorry,  Mackenzie Arnold, Hayley Raso, Alanna Kennedy and Vice Captain Steph Catley.

Meanwhile the eight Rockies are Fowler who is only 16 years, Gems Simon, Avivi Luik, Chloe Logarzo, Teagan Micah (Goalkeeper), Emily Gielnik, Amy Harrison and Ellis Carpenter.

The Australian team which is currently in close camp in Turkey will play their last pre-World Cup international friendly match with top European team, the Netherlands on June 1 before heading to France where they will play in Group C against Italy,  Brazil and debutante Jamaica.
