Nigeria’s Super Falcons were in impressive form this evening in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire as the all home-based team trashed hapless Burkina Faso ladies 5-1 in their opening Group B match in the on-going West Africa Football Union (WAFU) tournament.
Youth international Uchenna Kanu struck early barely 9′ on the clock and seven minutes later Nigeria double the lead with a well struck penalty by veteran Evelyn Nwabuoku in the 16′. Four minutes later another Nigerian penalty and midfielder Amarachi Okoronkwo scored in the 20th’ to end the first half 3-0.
On resumption, enterprising Kanu scored two more goals in the 50th’ and 71th’ respectively to get her first hattrick in the tournament even as Burkinabe’s Charlotte Milligo pulled one back late on to ensure that the final scoreline read Nigeria 5-1 Burkina Faso.
