WAFCON 2024: We’ll continue to grind out results, says Super Falcons coach

After a frustrating barren draw against Algeria’s senior women’s football team, Les Fennecs in the Group B final match at Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday night, Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu is upbeat that his team will continue to grind out good results in the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) holding in Morocco from July 5 to 26, 2025.

Speaking at post-match interview in Casablanca against the backdrop of the fact that Nigeria will face old foes Zambia in the quarter-final stage next week, Madugu insists that the Super Falcons are focused on getting the job done despite not being at their best form in this competition.

According to him, the team has not done too badly as they have not lost any match nor conceded any goal after beating Tunisia 3-0 in the opening group match and grinding out a 1-0 win over Botswana before playing out a frustrating barren draw against a desperate Algeria.

He, however, agreed that the Super Falcons must now gear up as they face tougher opponents in the knock out stage of the tournament, promising to continue to work out the tactics and formation that will give the team the results it wants in every game.

Said he: “Every match gives us something new. We rotated the squad, maintained a clean sheet, and learned to grind out results when the goals don’t come.”
