Plotting Against Common Enemy… Super Falcons players seen here plotting against Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon
To avoid any last minute pull out by any player from the forthcoming prestigious international friendly matches between Nigeria and Cameroon during the May/June FIFA women’s international football window, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has contacted the foreign-based Super Falcons players to be invited for the double-header billed to take place on Saturday, May 31 at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo, and on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at the refurbished MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, both in Ogun state of Nigeria.
Prompt News can authoritatively report that the bulk of Nigerian players plying their trades abroad, especially the large number of Super Falcons playing in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the United States of America (USA) have been contacted for their availability and travel plans for the trip from their base to Nigeria and back.
No fewer than 10 Nigerian players are currently playing in the NWSL, including six-time CAF Player of the Year Award-winning player, Asisat Lamina Oshoala (Bay FC), defender Nicole Oyeyemisi Payne (Thorns FC), forward Ifeoma Chukwufumnaya Onumonu (Utah Royals) and versatile player Michelle Chinwendu Alozie (Houston Dash).
Others are pacy forward Uchenna Grace Kanu (Racing Louisville), power-forward Gift Nyakoyo Monday (Washington Spirit), rising forward Chiamaka Christabel Okwuchukwu (San Diego Wave), midfielder Favour Chinagorom Emmanuel (San Diego Wave) and reliable midfielder Deborah Ajibola Abiodun (Washington Spirit).
Although Abiodun was loaned out by Washington Spirit to 2nd division team, Dallas Trinity FC, where she is plying her trade alongside a British-Nigerian Chioma Grace Ubogagu who is originally owned by Orlando Pride in the NWSL.
Also, being contacted are Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Busayo Ajibade of Atlético de Madrid Femenino (Spain), midfielder Christy Onyenaturuchi Ucheibe (SL Benfica, Portugal) and defenders Osinachi Ohale (Pachucha Club de Futbol, Mexico) and Oluwatosin Demehin (Galatasaray Sportive, Turkey).
France-based Falcons including No.1 goalkeeper Chiamaka Cynthia Nnadozie (Paris FC) and midfielder Jennifer Onyinyechi Echegini (PSG) have been sounded out of their availability for the double-header along some other Falcons scattered across the globe.
Our reporter exclusively gathered that head coach Justin Madugu has turned in a provisional list of Super Falcons players he intends to use to prosecute the two test-matches for the former African champions ahead of the 2024 CAF Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) holding in Morocco from July 5 to 26, 2025.
Meanwhile, it is not certain whether the Super Falcons will set up camp in Lagos as earlier reported by this newspaper or shift base to Ogun state, specifically nestle at Remo Stars Stadium Complex in Ikenne-Remo or in Abeokuta, the state capital city.
