Botswana Football Association becomes 20th body to host CAF Safe Stadium Initiative Workshop

By Harry Awurumibe, Editor -in-Chief, Abuja Bureau                                                                                                                                                      Determined to stamp out crowd incidents or totally eradicate stampede in match venues in its country, Botswana Football Association (BFA) has become the 20th nation in Africa to host the CAF Safe Stadium Initiative Workshop.

The workshop designed to train Safety and Security Officers who will man the stadia across the country during football matches was held in Gaborone, capital of Botswana.

Speaking after handing down certificates of participation to the participants, CAF Head of Safety and Security Department, Dr. Christian Ifeanyivhukwu Emeruwa commended the participants and admonished them to put into practice what they learnt in the workshop during football matches in Botswana going forward.

Said he: “We are grateful to the leadership of BFA and the authorities of Botswana Police Service and Ministry of Sports. Congratulations to all participants.

“We are committed to ensuring that all those responsible in coordinating safety and security operations in Africa are well trained.”

Meanwhile, no fewer than 20 countries have hosted the workshop. They include Botswana, Egypt, Nigeria, Gambia, Namibia, Uganda, and
Kenya which hosted the inaugural workshop in Nairobi, focusing on enhancing football safety and security across the continent.
