No fewer than 33 women’s football clubs that registered to take part in the women’s category of the 2025 President Federation Cup National Draw scheduled for Lagos on March 12, 2025, have qualified for the Round of 32 without kicking a ball, Prompt News exclusively gathered.
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Director of Competitions, Ms Ruth David disclosed that unlike in the men’s category where the 74 qualified clubs from the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will start the campaign from the National Play-Off stage, the 33 teams in the women’s category will start the battle for the ultimate trophy from the Round of 32.
According to the NFF top official, all the 33 registered clubs in the 2025 President Federation Cup women’s category will be drawn to start from the Round of 32, although it was not clear what will happen to the one extra team after the pairing of the 32 out of 33 teams.
Meanwhile, 11 states in the Northern region of Nigeria and three from the South failed to register a club for the oldest football competition in the country. They include Benue, Borno, Cross River, Ekiti, Jigawa, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, and Kebbi. Others are Niger, Oyo, Sokoto,Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara states, respectively.
