Expectedly, South Africa on Tuesday evening eliminated Tanzania from the 2024 Paris Olympic Games after a 1-0 home win at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit ensured that the Banyana Banyana qualified on 4-0 aggregate to meet arch-rivals Nigeria’s Super Falcons in the final round of African qualification series.
A second half goal scored by the Banyana captain Thembi Kgatlana was the hosts needed to compound the woes of Tanzanians who also lost the first leg in Dar es Salaam 3-0 courtesy of goals from Jermaine Seoposenwe, Kgatlana and Hildah Magaia.
It was expected that South Africa will score a handful of goals today in Mbombela but it was not to be as the Tanzanians showed great resistance to the danger and managed it well until experience helped South Africa to carry the day.
By this result South Africa will now battle with Nigeria in April 1 to 9 for the ticket for the Paris Olympics.
