Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) title holders, Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa and the much-improved Delta Queens will tomorrow at Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba clash in the final of 2023 NWFL Premiership Super 6 with the winner carting away the coveted trophy.Also, the club that emerged champion on Sunday will represent Nigeria in the WAFU-B play-off for the ticket to play in the 3rd edition of the lucrative CAF Women’s Champions League later in the year. Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt and Bayelsa Queens represented the country in the first and second editions respectively.
But the desire of Bayelsa Queens to make it back to back to the CAF Women’s Champions League after the 2022 misadventure will face a tough opposition when they file out on Sunday against Delta Queens in the final match of the play-off.
Both teams have navigated a tough routes to get to the final with Bayelsa Queens needing a narrow 1-0 win against arch rivals, Rivers Angels in the last Group A match on Friday to finish top on 6 points after defeating FC Robo of Lagos 2-0 earlier while Delta Queens came top by winning a match against Confluence Queens and drawing 0-0 with Edo Queens in the final tie of Group B.
However, odds favour Delta Queens who will be counting on the power of the 12th-man as they will be playing in front of home crowd in Asaba to get them over the line. This is even as Delta state government will more than ever before flex its financial muscles by motivating the players and officials to go for a broke on Sunday.
This match is Delta Queens’ best chance to win a silverware to compensate for the huge financial resources the state government has invested in the club, the few that have survived the high turnover of defunct women’s football clubs in Nigeria due to harsh economic reality.
‘The Prosperity Girls’ as Bayelsa Queens are called are not easy meat to chew hence it promises to be an epic encounter because they are well motivated side too with the incumbent governor of Duoye Diri known to be a big spender on the club that has been bringing joy to the state since he became governor over three years ago.

The Coach Domo Okara’s side plays a pretty good football and has Young enterprising players like Falconets forward, Sabastine Flourish and Glory Edet who kept her nerves to convert the third minute spot kick which was enough to beat Rivers Angels on Friday.
It remains to be seen how both teams will perform on the day and the team with better tactics and luck will carry the day.
Meanwhile, multiple winners of the NWFL trophy, Rivers Angels and season’s surprised team, Confluence Queens of Lokoja will trade tackles in the losers play-off earlier on Sunday at the same venue.
Both clubs who came second behind the finalists in Group A and B will not like to leave Asaba empty-handed hence the match will also be an interesting one.
In all, football fans in Delta state and across the country who will make it to the Asaba on Sunday to watch women go to war.
