A first half penalty goal scored by Super Eagles left-winger Moses Simon after the overlapping defender Bright Osayi-Samuel was hacked down in the opposition box, was all Nigeria needed to defeat host Guinea-Bissau 1-0 away to avenge last Friday’s home loss in the Match Day 3 of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier tie.
The victory in Guinea-Bissau in Match Day 4 ensured that Nigeria return to the summit of Group A with 9 points from four matches while Guinea-Bissau is now on 7 points, Sierra Leone 6 points while Sao Tome and Principe is at the bottom of the log.
Nigeria started the match the brightest as the Head Coach Jose Dos Santos Peseiro made five changes bringing in experience players like central defender, Kenneth Omeruo; Semi Ajayi, Frank Onyeka, Terrem Moffi and Simon.
The changes worked for the team but the usual lackadaisical attitudes on the part of the players robbed them of scoring more goals after the home team adopted a rather negative tactics of seating back to defend their victory in Abuja.
Efforts by Guinea-Bissau to come out of their cage to fight did not yield any positive result as the Super Eagles tamed the Wild Dogs at their own backyard.
