The visiting Maureen Mmadu Kiddies Academy team last night defeated
Anwar Almostakbal Sporting Club of Casablanca 2-0 to end their 10-day training tour of Morocco on a high note.
Damilola Odebode scored the first goal in the 25 minutes while Juliet Eghbuna, captain of the team scored the second goal in the 80th minutes to put the match to bed and by extension secure the Nigerian side their first win in four marches
The match played in the Morocco’s commercial capital, Casablanca was the first time the Nigerian women’s football academy club will win a match in four games in Casablanca.
According to the Head Coach of Maureen Mmadu Kiddies Academy and Proprietress of the team, Maureen Mmadu stated that the match against Anwar AlmostakbaL Casablanca was the first time the organizers of the tour pitched her team with a true Under 20 side to play since they arrived in Morocco.
“We are happy that we ended the 10-day tour of Morocco with a big win. For us, this was the first match out of the four games that we have played against true U-20 girls in Morocco. The matches we lost were against seniors and professional teams. We are just an amateur academy team”, Mmadu said.
The visitors had started the 10-day tour of Morocco with a 1-4 loss to Moroccan Women’s Premier League club, Wydad Athletics Casablanca but bounced back to hold Hilal Temara Club to 2-2 draw in the second match also played in Casablanca.
Maureen Mmadu Kiddies Academy girls fell 7-0 to the superior firepower of more matured Sporting Club Casablanca, another Women’s Premier League team in their third match in the tour of Morocco before ending the trip with a heartwarming 2-0 victory over Anwar AlmostakbaL Casablanca yesterday.
This is the first time a women’s football academy team is playing international friendlies outside the shores of Nigeria since women’s football officially started in Nigeria in the early 1990s.
