A first half goal scored by captain, Chizlane Chebbak was all the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco needed to defeat Lady Stallions of Burkina Faso 1-0 to claim all three points in the opening match of the 12th CAF Women’s Africa  Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2022.

Pundits had predicted that Morocco will beat Burkina Faso by wide margin and the total goals attempts of 16 and 7 on target by the hosts compared to Burkina Faso’s 9 and 3 confirmed that the West Africans escaped heavy defeat.
But the Burkinabes will be proud of themselves as they  did not show any sign of intimidation by the star-studded Morocco who have full compliments of the home fans to cheer them to victory.
With this win, the Moroccans have wiped off the ghost of losing 8-0 to Nigeria in the maiden CAF Women’s Championship (AWC) hosted by Nigeria in 1998. They now lead Group A while Burkina Faso are bottom of the table until tomorrow’s match between Senegal and Uganda is decided.
