Black Queens of Ghana celebrating one of the two goals
Black Queens of Ghana bounced back from despair to glory as two second half goals by Princella Adubea and Vivian Konadu helped them to beat Indomitable Lionesses ofCameroon 2-0 on Monday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, to end the 6-Nation Invitational Tournament in Lagos on a high.
Also, the second defeat condemned Cameroon to the last position in the six-team competition after the Indomitable Lionesses were edged in the first match by Morocco via Fatima Tagnaout’s 78 minute goal which gave the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco a historic 1-0 victory over the Cameroonians.
Ghana was also handed a 3-0 thrashing by South Africa in the first match but Ghanaian coach, Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo made good her words to make changes in the second game which paid off handsomely as her team beat Cameroon 2-0 to salvage the image of Ghana.
Indomitable Lionesses fell to roar in Lagos
The introduction of Justice Tweneboaa, Vivian Konadu and Elizabeth Owusu who replaced Adams Grace, Diwura Soale Wasila and Opoku Sonia ensured that Ghana improved tremendously on the day.
The Cameroon coach also made three changes to their opening game defeat as he put goalkeeper Bawow Ange Gabrielle in place of Carole Mimboe while Eliane Aimee Bibout and Bertthe Reinette Abega came in for Bella Rose and Jeannette Grace Ngock.
However, it was Ghana who carried the day as Adubea raced through Cameroon’s defence before slotting the ball into the back of the net for the opening goal of the tie in the 60th minute while Konadu scored the second goal in the 89th minute to put the match to bed.
Although Cameroon tried to score in the 70th minute from Onguene Gabrielle Aboudi’s free-kick but it posed no threat to Fafa Dumehasi in goal for Ghana.
With this victory Ghanaian coach has achieved her first objective of coming to Lagos to see the Super Falcons up close as both teams will meet in African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) Morocco 2022 qualifiers while Cameroon will clash with Central Africa Republic (CAR) next month.
