2022 AWCON qualifiers: Super Falcons list out soon, Club duties delay camping

Ready to Roll…Super Falcons players united for course

The much anticipated list of Super Falcons players to prosecute the Six-nation Women’s Football  Invitational Tournament slated for Lagos state in a fortnight and the crucial African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) ‘Morocco 2022’ qualifiers against Ghana Black Queens of Ghana will be released this weekend.

This is even as Sportsrevelation has exclusively gathered that the delay in making the list of invited players public before now is to avoid  absenteeism.
According to our sources who pleaded anonymity,  both Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Super Falcons Head Coach, Randy Waldrum are cautious of the facts that most of the overseas-based players invited for the upcoming assignments are currently busy with their club duties.
“The coach has actually submitted the list of invited players for the tournament in Lagos but changes may be made because of the availability of players. Most of the invited players are still busy with their clubs.
“Some of the players will play matches on Sunday, September 12, 2021. This is why NFF has not released the list earlier, because it is expected that there will be some addition or subtraction in the list. We want to avoid absenteeism”.

Eyes on the Ball. ..U.S-based Super Falcons forward, Michelle Alozie may be available if club duties allow.

Sportsrevelation can confirm that except for unavoidable circumstances, overseas clubs are duty-bound to release their players for national team duties as the September 13 to 21 Lagos Invitational Tournament  tournament falls on the 2021 FIFA Women’s Football Calendar. Also, the October AWCON qualifiers will be played during the FIFA break.

Meanwhile, NFF Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire has disclosed that the federation will release the Super Falcons players list this weekend. He spoke on Channels Television sports programme during the week.

However, most of the invited countries including Ghana, Mali, Cameroon and South Africa have not only unveiled  their squad lists, they have also started close camping ahead of their trip to Nigeria in a fortnight.
