Almost one year of inactivity, the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) finally resumed Sunday after several postponement.
The elite football has been in comatose following the suspension of football activities in Nigeria and across the world at the outbreak of novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
But football activities in other climes quickly resumed while Nigerian league organisers and the federal authorities failed to restart football activities in Nigeria.
However, after several postponement,
former Champions Plateau United football club started the new season on disappointing note going down to a 2-0 home defeat against Kwara United at the New Jos Stadium.
Kwara’s Jide Fatokun directed his header into the net from close range in the 62nd minute after the home team failed to clear their lines.
Five minutes later, Michael Ohanu headed home the second goal from a Kabir Balogun’s assist. This gave the Afonja Warriors a huge victory and an early leadership of the league table.
Elsewhere, Nasarawa United rallied back from a goal down to beat Wikki Tourists 2-1 in Lafia.
Promise Damala gave Wikki the lead on eight minutes diverting home Manu Garba’s cut-back.
The home side responded quickly with Emmanuel Bright scoring the equaliser.
Reuben Nicodemus netted the winning goal seven minutes after the break.
Nonso Nzediegwu scored the decisive goal as FC IfeanyiUbah beat Lobi Stars 1-0 in Nnewi.
In Kaduna, Jigawa Golden Stars also beat Sunshine Stars 1-0 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
Stone Onukwube got the winning goal 12 minutes from time after he was teed up Musa Lala.
Also, at the Agege Stadium, Lagos MFM defeated Warri Wolves 2-1 in a thrilling contest.
MFM took the lead in the eight minute through Ebenezer Odeyemi, while Muyiwa Balogun got the second in the 23rd minute.
The visitors pulled a goal back four minutes later with John Paul Chinedu directing Ihuarulam’s cross into the net.
Kano Pillars held their hosts Adamawa United to a 1-1 draw in another matchday one contest
Rabiu Ali put Kano Pillars ahead with a sublime finish In the 13th minute.
Adamawa United fought back with Isa Garba getting the equaliser 15 minutes from time.
