Barely three weeks to the first leg first round of the FIFA U-20 Women World Cup African qualifier match between Nigeria and Burkina Faso billed for September 4 or 5 in Ouagadougou, the national U-20 team. Falconets are waiting for words from the Federal Government to know if they will resume camping in Abuja ahead of the crucial match.
Sportsrevelation reports that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) leadership has since written to its supervising Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development seeking a waiver from thegovernment for the Falconets to start close camping for the tie against Burkina Faso but has not received any green light to call the team to camp.
This issue was however discussed at the NFF Executive Commiittee virtual meeting held on Monday where the Executive Board Members resolved to wait for authorization from the Federal Government for special waiver before the Federation can call players to camp.
The decision was contained in communique made available to the media after the Monday virtual meeting. It read:
“Pertaining to the preparation of the U20 and U17 Women National Teams for upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying matches, the Board announced that having written to the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for a special waiver to call the girls to camp, it would await response from the Government before making any moves for the camping programme”.
