Three Against Three… Three Flamingos players keep eyes on three Mees Academy players during the training match yodsy at FIFA Goal Project, Abuja
National U-17 women’s football team, Flamingos Friday morning in Abuja defeated Mees Football Academy (MFA) boys 3-2 in a keenly contested training match ahead of the team’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup African qualifiers first round first leg match against Guinea in March 1.
The match played at the FIFA Goals Project pitch at Package B of the Abuja National Stadium renamed Moshod Abiola Stadium was part of the Flamingos build up to the Nigeria and Guinea clash in Conakry in the first week of March.
The team’s coaches led by Abiodun Olowookere, Queendolyn Akpan and Mohammed Ndanusa rotated the squad many times to give the 39 players currently in camp the opportunity to show what they can offer the team.
Sportsrevelation can confirm that the U-17 women gave the boys a good fight as the match was heading to a 2-2 draw before Rivers Angels’ Kelechi Chukwuebuka stepped up to score the winning goal late on.
New kid on the block, Oluwayemisi Samuel scored the first and second goals for the Flamingos earlier on but the boys who showed more skills than the girls scored two goals themselves in the match watched by a handful of spectators.
Flamingos will continue their training this evening just as Palace Academy, a team based in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja may be invited for the return match in the weeks ahead.
