2020 Tokyo Olympics qualifiers :Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon clash imminent

With eight countries left in the race for the African tickets for the women’s football tournament of 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, heavyweights in Africa are poised to clash very soon.

Reigning African Champions, Nigeria is among eight nations still in running to pick the ticket to represent Africa in the Tokyo Olympics next year. Nigeria eliminated Algeria yesterday to qualify for the third round of the elimination series.

Also qualified for the next round are Ghana, Cote d Ivoire, Kenya, DR Congo, Cameroon, Zambia and Botswana which bundled out South Africa that represented Africa in the last two editions in London 2012 and Rio 2016 respectively.

However, the fixtures for the remaining rounds showed that African women’s football power houses like Ghana and Cameroon will clash with arch-rivals,Nigeria in the fourth or fifth rounds as only the top team will pick the ticket while runner up will go for play off against Chile from South America.

The fixtures for the next round are :
Cote d Ivoire vs Nigeria
DR Congo vs Cameroon
Kenya vs Ghana
Zambia vs Botswana

The first and second leg matches have been scheduled to hold between September 30 and 8 October, 2019.
