12th All Africa Games: Falconets thrash Algeria 3-0, book final ticket

A brace from fast-paced forward,  Cynthia Aku and a late strike from Zainab Olapade was all Falconets of Nigeria needed to brush aside opponents,Algeria in the semi final match of the on-going 12th All Africa Games in Morocco decided this afternoon in Rabat.

Aku scored her first of the two goals in the 16th minute when she got the better of the Algerian defenders to slot in the ball for Nigeria’s first goal.

The Rivers Angels player and former Flamingos goalpoacher put Nigeria two goals up in the 27th minute when she was again popped up in the Algerian box to score from close range after Nigeria’s team captain had displaced the Algerian defenders.

Nigeria dominated the game as the scoreline should have been bigger if the Coach Christopher Danjuma led team had been clinical in front of goal.

But Defensive midfielder, Zainab Olapade surged forward in the 90th minute to bang inNigeria’s word goal on the day when goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie was virtually on holiday and could only touch the ball whenever there was goal kick in favour of Nigeria.

Nigeria have by this victory qualified for the final of women’s football event and by extension hopes to pick Gold or at worst Silver medal in Morocco.
