A Nigerian delegation made up of 18 players, three coaches, backroom staff and just two administrative officials have arrived Algiers enroute Bilda for the first leg of second round of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics African qualifier tie between Algeria and Nigeria.
The match is slated for the Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida, outside Algiers with kick off at 7pm on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 while Nigeria Football Federation NFF (NFF) has scheduled the return for Tuesday, September 3 at Agege stadium, Lagos.
Among the players who traveled to Algeria aboard Turkish Airlines in the wee hours of today (Sunday) via Istanbul, Turkey are two experienced goalkeepers- Tochukwu Oluchi and Christy Ohiaeriaku as well as defenders, Glory Ogbonna, Mariam Ibrahim and Ugochi Emenayo.
Others in team are midfielders Amarachi Okoronkwo, Osaronoma Igbinovia and Blessing Edoho while the attackers are Rofiat Sule and Ibidemi Ibe.
Super Falcons Head Coach Thomas Dennerby is optimistic of an away victory over the Algerians despite of non availability of Nigeria’s foreign-based professionals for the first leg clash.
“I am confident that we (Falcons) will get a favourable result in Algeria with the level of our preparation. It may not be the situation I wanted but I believe in the team, I trust the players to do their best”, he said in a chat before the team left Abuja
