A 3rd minute goal when the game was still young was all that the Super Eagles of Nigeria needed to defeat the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia 1-0 at Al Salaam Stadium in Cairo, Egypt to finish in the third place and also claim the Bronze medal in the AFCON 2019 edition.
Nigeria could have scored more goals as the Eagles dominated the first half of the match but as usual their lack of purpose and silly mistakes let them down as the Tunisians themselves were not better either on the noght.
But the Alain Giresse-tutored team came to life in the second half when Khazri-led squad bombarded the Nigerian vital area to try to equalize the game, although poor marksmanship let them down.
Both coaches, Gernot Rohr and Giresse of Nigeria and Tunisia made their three mandatory changes in determined efforts to win the tie but it was Nigeria that carried the day.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) officials including Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President and CAF 1st Vice President, Amaju Melvin Pinnick were on hand to present Bronze medals to the 23 players of the Super Eagles, coaching crew and the backroom staff to the admiration and songs by the members of Nigeria Supporters Club and other travelling fans at the stadium.
