Wonder Boy… Samuel Chukwueze celebrating his goal against South Africa in Cairo, Egypt today. Nigeria won 2-1
An almost full-time goal scored by defender, William Troost-Ekong was all that Super Eagles of Nigeria needed to dump loquacious Bafana Bafana of South Africa out of the on-going Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on 2-1 goals final score at Cairo International Stadium today.
Ekong got to the end of the South African post to tap in after Simon Moses had played in a corner. The vital goal came in the 89th minute. It was a response to his error which gifted South Africa the equalizer when head the ball towards his own goal and South Africa’s Bongani benefitted and beat Akpeyi in the 70th minute.
Samuel Chukwueze had put Nigeria ahead in the 27th minute when he outwitted South African defenders to beat goalie Williams at close range after he was played by Alex Iwobi who was himself set up by Team Captain on the day, Ahmed Musa.
By this victory Nigeria has zoomed into the semi final of the competition where they will take on fellow West Africans, Cote d’ Ivoire or Algeria .
Meanwhile, the organizers later presented Chukwueze with the Total Man of the Match Award and former Golden Eaglets playmaker expressed his delight to be so chosen for the award.
