End of the road for France, USA eliminates host nation 2-1

American Wonder Woman…Megan Rapinoe scored a brace against France in their 2-1 win.

The much anticipated clash of the giants between France and United States of America (USA) today in the second quarter final tie of the 8th FIFA Women’s World Cup lived up to the expectations as the host country was defeated 2-1 courtesy of Megan Rapinoe’s brace at Parc des Princes in Paris.

The American superstar struck a free kick around the wall and the ball found itself through the legs of Wendie Renard of France whose slight touch redirected the ball inside her own net for the USA first goal in the 5th minute of the game.

Rapinoe showed up again to score her second goal on the night in the 65th minute against the run of play when  Hilda Heath squared the ball inside the box and on rushing Alex Morgan captain on the night missed but Rapinoe who was unmarked slotted in.

After this second goal, the French came out to attack and they were rewarded when Renard rose highest to nod in the consolation goal off a free kick by Les Bleues who could not find the equalizer till the end of the match.

With the victory, the fears earlier expressed by the French football fans have been justified as they were apprehensive going into the clash as many of them said that USA is too strong for the France team.

Team USA will meet England in the first semi final tie next week.
