Mighty USA destroys Thailand, Alex Morgan scores 5 in 13-0 World Cup record

It was a black Tuesday for Thailand football and by extension the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) as FIFA Women’s World Cup defending Champions; United States of America (USA) massacred Thailand 13-0 at the on-going 8^th Women’s World Cup final in France with star striker Alex Morgan scoring five goals alone.

Although bookmakers would have given the match to Team USA but nobody envisaged the scandalous outcome of the game, a 13-0 score line which watered down the performance of the Americans.

Three-time World Cup Winners showed no mercy to the hapless Thai Ladies who are in the world stage for the first time with fleet-footed Morgan getting into the score sheet as early as in the 12^th minute to open the floodgate of goals and eight minutes later Rose Lavelle struck in the 20^th minute while Lorey Horan scored in the 32^nd minute to end the first half 3-0 advantage.

Thailand was to see the worst in the better forgotten second half when Morgan added four more goals in the 53^rd, 74^th, 81^st and 87^th to bring her tally to five goals in just one match in France even as four more players got on the score sheet.

Samantha Mewis helped herself with two goals in the 50^th and 54^th minute;  Lavelle scored her second in the 56^th minute while May Rapinoe 79’; M. Pugh 84’ and Captain Carli Lloyd 90+2’ to render the game a mere practice match.

The embarrassing tie would have been more ridiculous had the Americans converted their 40 shots on target against Thailand’s 2 shots on targets throughout the 90^th minute’s duration while ball possession was 73 over 27 per cent.

The result has shown that Group F will not be one of the best three teams to qualify for the Round of 16.
