Ahead May 29 Inauguration: Ihedioha Renovates Dan Anyiam Stadium

By Harry Awurumibe, Abuja.

Apparently to give an insight to what he intends to do for sports in Imo state, Governor-elect, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha has undertaken the renovation of the Dan Anyiam Stadium, venue of his inauguration come May 29.

The renovation will take care of emergency repairs of the abandoned stadium which will play host to the Swearing-in Ceremony of the governor-elect.

The renovation work which is supervised by the Transition/Inauguration Committee setup by Ihedioha is being funded by the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The renovation will majorly include repairs of the two major sections of the Stadium, the Grasshoppers Handball Stadium and the football pitch which will be the venue for the inauguration proper on Wednesday, May 29. Sadly both wings of the stadium have been abandoned for four years now by the out-going Governor, Rochas Okorocha’s “Rescue Government of Government”.

According to the Secretary of the Works/Venue Committee, Arch. Chidi Clinton Okoli, the renovation exorcise is completely funded by the Governor Elect-(Emeka Ihedioha). He noted that the Imo State Government under Okorocha has not contributed a dime or even cooperated with the committee in the rehabilitation and renovation process.

“We are renovating all the toilets, both the VIP and the ones at the public stands. It’s sad to note that there is no functional toilet or bathroom in this whole complex. We are also repairing all the seats. Painting the walls and fixing the barricades. The drainages are all blocked and we are cleaning all of them up. By the time we complete what we are doing here, I’m certain the place will be habitable for Imo People and our visitors”, Okoli observed.
