WAFU Cup: Falcons beat Black Queens, Soar to final

Two penalty saves by youthful goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie and the precision of the outfield players were all that it required for Nigeria’s Super Falcons to edge out Black Queens of Ghana 4-2 on penalty kicks to reach the final of the second edition of the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup in Abidjan.

The much anticipated clash of the titans lived up to the predictions of women’s football followers as both teams did not find the back of each other’s net in the regulation time as the match ended 0-0.

But in the ensuing penalty kicks after 90 minutes, Super Falcons players held their nerves with Amarachi Okoronkwo, Alice Ogebe and two others scored for Falcons while Nnadozie rose to the occasion by saving two kicks by the Black Queens players to ensure that Nigeria won the tie 4-2 to reach the final of the WAFU Cup.

Nigeria will meet Cote d Ivoire in the final this weekend after the Ivoiriens defeated Mali in the first semi final earlier today.
