The 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) runner-up, South Africa will test the resolves of the reigning FIFA Women’s World Cup holders, United States of America (USA) when the Africans file out tomorrow in a top of the bill international friendly match in California.
The first ever match between the two countries at the senior women’s football level is part of the two nations’ Pre- Women’s World Cup France 2019 preparations and both will present their best players in the match.
Team USA, Three-time World Champions is expected to unleash on the Banyana Banyana of South Africa some of the world’s best women’s football players like veteran goalscorers Alex Morgan, Megan Rapione, Christen Press and captain Carli Lloyd as well as reliable goalkeeper, Ashlyn Harris.
With the pedigree of Team USA in the world, the South Africa Head Coach, Desire Ellis will surely be on growing gray hairs on how best to mitigate the damage the Americans will course her team even as Ellis will be happy to test her players against the World Super Power ahead of South Africa’s first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup final.
But for Team USA, it will be the first of the three matches planned by Head Coach, Jill Ellis to put her players in the competition mood before the land in France to defend the trophy they won four years ago in Canada. Team USA will later this month play against New Zealand on May 17 and Send-Off game versus Mexico on May26 in United States.
