Referee Fatou Ngum from Gambia
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Fatou Ngum from Gambia as the centre referee for the first leg of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2026 qualifier between Benin Republic and and Nigeria scheduled for October 24, 2025, at the Stade de Kégué, Lomé in Togo, Prompt News reports.
Although the names of other officials who will officiate the encounter with Ngum have not been made public by CAF, there are indications that at least one of the assistants will come from Gambia while others can come from across Africa.
The Super Falcons who are still basking in the euphoria of winning the 10th WAFCON title last July in Morocco are expected to touch down in Lome, the Togolese capital on Tuesday, October 22, 2025, ahead of the match on Friday, October 24, 2025.
The return leg match will take place at MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun state on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, a venue submitted to CAF by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The winner over two legs will qualify for the competition slated for March 17 to April 3, 2026, in Morocco, which will also serve as African qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil.
Nigeria has qualified for every FIFA Women’s World Cup since the competition debuted in China in 1991, with the country reaching the quarter-final stage in 1999 in the United States of America (USA) under the guidance of late coach Ismaila Mabo.
