Champions of Africa….Super Falcons of Nigeria have received their multi-million naira prize money from NFF
In line with its policy of transparency, the Ibrahim Musa Gusau led Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has fulfilled its agreement with the Super Falcons by prominently paying the team the thirty percent (30%) of the One Million Dollars ($1 million) (approximately ₦1.5 billion) prize money for winning the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco last July.
Prompt News exclusively gathered that the federation has since disbursed the sum of $300,000 (₦450 million), being the 30 per cent of the prize money directly to the players as agreed before the competition in Morocco.
This is even as each squad member, coaching crew and backroom staff have all received full camp allowances and match-winning bonuses from the NFF running into several millions of naira outside the huge financial largesse raked in from several NFF corporate sponsors that hosted the team on their return from Morocco in July.
Also, an elated Nigeria’s president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on behalf of a grateful country, showered the Super Falcons with the sum of $100,000 each, national honours, and a 3-bedroom flat for each player and officials.
Recall the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had announced before the start of 2024 WAFCON in Morocco, a 100 per cent increase in the prize money for the champions of the tournament, by defeating host nation Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final on Saturday, July 26, the Nigerian team became the first beneficiaries of the new financial reward.
