Despite guiding Nigeria’s Super Falcons to an emphatic 5-0 whitewash of the Copper Queens of Zambia in the quarter-final match of the ongoing CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) at Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on Friday evening, head coach Justin Madugu has said he and his players are not celebrating too much because there are still two crucial matches to go in the competition.
Speaking exclusively to Prompt News at Super Falcons’ Ibis Casablanca Hotel on Saturday, Madugu made it abundantly clear that the Nigerian squad is not over celebrating the big victory over the tough Zambians because there is an important semi-final
match to play in next week.
According to him, the team has fixed its eyes on the big picture, which is the trophy at stake, pointing out that the players can not afford not to be focused at this crucial moment as any loss of concentration may be costly to the team.
Said he: “Although we are very happy for our victory over Zambia that everyone was talking about on Friday, the job is not done yet. We have a crucial semi-final match, and that should be our focus now because the competition has reached a critical stage that the team can not afford to be complacency”
Madugu argued that over celebrating Zambia’s fall in the quarter-final stage will be detrimental to the collective aspiration of winning the 10th WAFCON title in Morocco, saying that
it will be foolhardy not to recognise the importance of the task ahead.
