Super Falcons in high spirits, resume training for Zambia clash

After observing a one day break to recover from the bruising barren draw against Algeria’s senior women’s football team, Les Fennecs, in the final Group B match at Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca last Saturday night, the Super Falcons are back on the training ground full of confidence of doing better in the first quarter-final match of the ongoing CAF TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) billed for Friday, July 18, 2025.

Prompt News has exclusively gathered that the coaching crew led by Justin Madugu has held a soul-searching closed-door meeting with the players and backroom staff with the sole aim of reviewing the performances of Super Falcons in the three group matches and resolved to improve in every aspect of the game going forward.

“The team has reviewed the Algerian match as we do after each match, and the head coach (Madugu) has also spoken to the players during the review sessions. I believe the players know what is at stake and will improve in their performance and approach to the game in the next match against Zambia on Friday, ” our source embedded in the team stated.

According to the ever-reliable source, Super Falcons players have also vowed to come out of their shell and show their collective and individual qualities in the next match against Zambia just as the pedigree of the nine-time African champions is at stake in Morocco as many Nigerians believe that the team has been unconvincing in their three group matches and would want a change of attitude.

Recall that Nigeria started the WAFCON 2024 on a brighter note by beating Algeria 3-0 in the opening match of Group B, laboured to a 1-0 victory over Botswana in the second game and played out a barren draw against Algeria’s Les Fennecs in the last match, two results which did not go down well  with many Nigerians who are now demanding for a better performance in the quarter-final match with Zambia.
