Super Eagles. ..Now have new Head Coach in Jose Peseiro
Expectedly, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has finally announced Portugal-born José Vítor dos Santos Peseiro as the new Head Coach of the country’s senior football team, Super Eagles to replace sacked former coach Gernot Rohr.
The announcement which was made public Wednesday by NFF Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire confirmed our recent report which revealed that the federation will announce the appointment of Peseiro as Super Eagles Coach before the new year.
Interestingly, the announcement came within the projected time frame as
the appointment of Peseiro was contained in a Communique of the meeting of NFF Executive Committee held via video on Wednesday, December 29, 2021. The meeting deliberated on important issues in Nigeria football including the appointment of a substantive coach for Super Eagles.
Meanwhile, the highlight of the meeting was the announcement of the appointment of a Head Coach to replace Gernort Rohr.
The announcement read in parts: “After careful consideration of a memo presented by Chairman of the Technical and Development Sub-Committee, the Executive Committee endorsed a proposal for the appointment of Mr Jose Peseiro as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles, following the end to the relationship with Mr Gernot Rohr”.
“However, the Committee resolved that Mr Augustine Eguavoen, named the interim Head Coach, will lead the Super Eagles to the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon with Mr Peseiro only playing the role of Observer. It was unanimously agreed that the AFCON is a good avenue for Mr Peseiro to launch a working relationship with Mr Eguavoen, who will revert to his role as Technical Director (hence Mr Peseiro’s immediate boss) after the AFCON”.
Sportsrevelation has however exclusively gathered that the Portuguese tactician have been asked to arrive Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Super Eagles departure on January 5, 2022 for the 33rd AFCON which kicks off in Cameroon on January 9.
